Roads and Streets
The Highway Division routinely patches pavement as needed, performs crack sealing, and repairs guardrails and shoulders. Work completed is in coordination with the Engineering Department and the Five Year Paving Program. The Highway Division also provides sweeping, roadside clean up and arranges for the removal of dead animals when notified. We cannot come onto private property to pick up dead animals. Vehicular killed deer within the City of Brookfield will be picked up and disposed of by the Highway Division. Call (262) 782-5029.
Snow and Ice Control
Clearing the roadways of snow and ice is of primary concern to the Highway Division. Salt or a sand/salt mixture are spread to provide traction and deicing. As many as 27 trucks are used to spread deicing agents and plow snow as needed.
Mowing
Highway crews mow city owned turf areas on a regular basis. This includes some road edges, medians, boulevards, and city owned lots. Since mowing is seasonal, summer employees are hired to aid in this operation.
Brush and Trees
The Highway crews provide support staff for the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department to perform tree removal, stump removal, pick up storm damage, pick up Christmas trees, and perform brush removal and pruning. The removed materials are deposited at the Recycling Center.
Private property sight obstructions can be reported to Code Enforcement at - (262) 782-9650 extension 3523. Public right-of-way (streets) sight obstructions can be reported to the City of Brookfield Highway Division at - (262) 782-5029.
Traffic Signs, Signals, and Street Lights
The Highway Division replaces or repairs traffic signs on an as needed basis and replaces lamps in the signals and street lights as needed. Any work beyond lamp replacement on the signals and streetlights is assigned to a private lighting contractor and monitored by the Engineering or Highway Division.
Drainage
The Highway Division replaces driveway culverts and other culverts when necessary. Residents with culvert problems should contact the Highway Division.
