[ARCHIVED] Important Voting Information from Mayor Steven Ponto

Mayor Steven V Ponto

An Important message from Mayor Steve Ponto concerning voting options for the Fall Primary Election, August 11, 2020.

Dear Brookfield Residents –

PLEASE CONSIDER VOTING BY MAIL

To protect your health and the health of others during this coronavirus pandemic, you are urged to vote absentee by mail.  Doing so is very easy.  Just go to myvote.wi.gov and select the “Vote Absentee” button on the grey bar.   Then type in your name and date of birth.  When your record is found, select the blue tab which reads “Request Absentee Ballot” and follow the step-by-step directions.  In order to vote by mail, you must request a mail ballot by Thursday, August 6, 2020.  Once your request is submitted, the City will mail you a ballot with instructions.  When you have completed your ballot, return it by mailing it in the enclosed self-addressed stamped envelope or dropping it off in the payment drop box located on the east side parking lot between City Hall and Brookfield Central High School.  All received ballots remain inside their sealed envelopes until Election Day, when they will be opened by poll workers and scanned into the voting machine.

ALTERNATIVE #1    VOTING IN-PERSON ABSENTEE (EARLY VOTING)

If you choose not to vote absentee “by mail”, you may vote “in-person absentee” during early voting weekdays from Tuesday, July 28th through Friday, August 7 at City Hall during regular business hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  If you are not registered to vote, you may register during in-person absentee (early voting).  Be sure to bring your photo ID for voting and acceptable proof of residency if you are registering.  Registration requires you to have lived at your current residence for at least 28 days.   If you have not lived at the address for 28 days, you do not meet residency laws and must vote absentee from your prior address.

ALTERNATIVE # 2    VOTE AT YOUR POLLING LOCATION ON ELECTION DAY, AUGUST 11, 2020

If you choose not to vote by mail absentee ballot, or by in-person absentee early voting, you may vote in person on Election Day, August 11, 2020, at your assigned polling location.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, safe distancing protocols (6 feet social distancing) will be in force both for voting in-person absentee (early voting) at City Hall and for voting at your assigned polling location on Election Day, August 11, 2020.  Each voter will be given a new pen to use during voting and then to keep when they leave the voting area.  Please follow Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations and wear a mask for in-person absentee (early voting) or voting in-person on election day.

Please vote and stay well.

Mayor Steven V. Ponto
