[ARCHIVED] Special Performance - Hane Daiko (Japanese Drumming)

The Hane Daiko and Hiso Shibuki Taiko groups will bring their lively form of traditional Japanese Drumming to the Brookfield Civic Plaza, 2000 N. Calhoun Road on Sunday, July 17, from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Hane Daiko, “Jumping Drum” from Choshi City in Chiba Prefecture, recently lent their high energy drumming to the opening ceremony of the Japan National Handicapped Games in Chiba City, Japan. Hisho Shibuki Daiko, “Soaring Shibuki Drums” from Kisazaru City, Chiba Prefecture, are very spirited and intense drummers.

The Hanagasa Ondo Women’s Dance Group fromTomisato City, Chiba Prefecture, will also perform their special “Flower Straw Hat” folk dance. The audience will see this dance performed in the same way that it is done at Japanese Festivals. The women wear brightly colored Kimonos and perform the dance using a special flower straw hat.

This free performance is being arranged through Concordia University and the City of Brookfield. The 40 members of the two groups will be staying at Condordia while visiting and performing in Wisconsin.
