Why does my utility bill keep going up?
Check your home for leaks. If you have a sprinkler system, make sure there are no leaks. Make sure your water softener is not stuck in a regeneration mode. Check your toilets for leaks. Most toilet leaks are a bad flapper valve (easily replaced by the homeowner) or the ball float is stuck. Make sure all faucets are completely shut off. If you can’t find any of these problems easily, read your meter and watch the red dial. The red dial won’t move unless water is being drawn through it. If you are going to be gone for a period of time and/or not using any water for an extended period of time, write down all numbers on your meter dial. When you come home or are ready to use water, read the meter again, the numbers should not have moved. If they did, there is an internal plumbing leak somewhere. Should you need further assistance, please contact the Water Utility at 262-796-6717.
